Abc Wednesday, Abc Wednesday Round 5, jagjit singh

I love I just love Jagjit Singh…

His voice has a charisma and feelings that is beyond explanation…. and oh the lyrics that his Ghazals have…. Can never get enough of it…….

How much ever I try I can never ever pick one ghazal which is a favourite

I think the first ever ghazal I heard of his was the very very popular Yeh Daulat bhi le lo

I loved it back then instantly but now when I hear it, every word is like brilliant… I just want my childhood back

ye daulat bhii le lo, ye shoharat bhii le lo
bhale chhiin lo mujhase merii javaanii
magar mujhako lautaa do bachapan kaa saavan
vo kaagaz kii kashtii, vo baarish kaa paanii

muhalle kii sabase nishaanii puraanii
vo budhiyaa jise bachche kahate the naanii
vo naanii kii baaton mein pariyon kaa deraa
vo chahare kii jhuriryon mein sadiyon kaa pheraa
bhulaae nahiin bhuul sakataa hai koi
vo chhotii sii raaten vo lambii kahaanii

kadii dhuup mein apane ghar se nikalanaa
vo chidiyaa vo bulabul vo titalii pakadanaa
vo gudiyaa kii shaadii mein ladanaa jhagadanaa
vo jhuulon se giranaa vo gir ke sambhalanaa
vo piital ke chhallon ke pyaare se tohafe
vo tuutii hui chuudiyon kii nishaanii

kabhii ret ke unche tiilon pe jaanaa
gharaunde banaanaa banaake mitaanaa
vo maasuum chahat kii tasviir apanii
vo kvaabon khilaunon kii jaagiir apanii
na duniyaa kaa gam thaa na rishton ke bandhan
badii khuubasuurat thii vo zindagaanii

Some Trivia from Wiki

H is for Hariharan … I love his voice… love the way he sings… The above song is one of  the most beautiful song I have ever heard I think… The lyrics, the meanings… awesome… isnt this what the world needs right now… how I wish we could get away with Religion and make the world a peaceful place… a very moving video… It never fails to move me…

Some trivia from Wiki

  • Hariharan grew up in Mumbai in a Kerala Iyer family
  • Holds a bachelor degrees in science and law
  • His debut song was Ajeeb Saaneha Mujh Par Guzar Gaya Yaaron and won him Uttar Pradesh state award, as well as a Best Singer National Award nomination
  • He has sung more than 500 Tamil songs which is his highest in his career.
  • The year 1996 was a career milestone; he released the fusion album Colonial Cousins with Bombay-based composer/singer Leslie Lewis. This was the first Indian act to be featured on MTV Unplugged. It won a string of awards including the MTV Indian Viewers’ Choice award.
  • Hariharan has also acted in a Tamil film with Khushboo, titled Power of Women
  • In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri and Yesudas Award for his outstanding performance in music.

His voice has a passion that is so natural…Can u ever forget Bharat humko jaan se pyaara hai

It can move every Indian..

and his claim to fame

Chanda Re, the most beautiful song and N’s favourite

He has sung some lovely ghazals and some with Zakir Hussain too

Abc Wednesday, Abc Wednesday Round 5, geeta dutt

Geeta Dutt!!! I am in total awe for her… just love the way she sings, I think one of the best things about her was that she used to sing from heart and it used to show

Some of the trivia from her own site

Geeta was on born on the 23th of Nov 1930 in Idlapur village in Faridkot district.

Her father, Devendra Nath Chowdhury was the village zamindar.

Her mother Amya Roy Chowdhury was into music and shayari and Geeta was the only one of her        ten children (6 sons, 4 daughters) who picked up her mother’s interest in music.

She studied at the Anglo Bengali School. She was interested in music so started learning music        from Pt Hirendranath Chowdhury. She would practice for 3 hrs every day.

In 1942 her family migrated to Bombay, India. They started living in Hindu colony, Dadar.

The original name of Guru Dutt was Vasantkumar shivkumar Padukone, so after the marriage        Geeta Roy should have become Geeta Padukone. Instead she opted for Geeta Dutt, to match        Guru Dutt.

At the time of their marriage Geeta was one of the top singers while Guru Dutt was a struggling        director. This led to talk that he married her for financial security. This hurt him and he wanted        her to stop singing. To avoid marital tensions she stopped singing for a while.

She sang approximately 1200 songs in Hindi films. The decade wise breakup is 340(approx.) in        the 40’s, 755(approx.) in the 50’s, 85(approx.) in the 60’s and a few songs in the 70’s. (Info        courtesy HFGK by Hamraaz)

The last film she sang for was Anubhav (1971), MD – Kanu Roy.

On 20th July 1972 she passed away due to liver rupture at Harikishandas hospital.

Some of my favorites from her

Sometimes I am really thankful to youtube to keep this music alive…

PS: I know I am late but didnt want to miss an alphabet, ABC Wednesday on Thursday this time 😀

Abc Wednesday Round 5, farida khanum, flute, ghazal

F is for Flute

2flutes2

I love flute as an instrument, it has a capability of churning out the most melodious and soothing music on one side and going to a really sexy beat on the other.

Its also a instrument associated with Lord Krishna.

A relaxing calm spiritual flute

The magic Pandit Hari Prasad Chuarisia creates with flute is amazing, I always get so much peace when I hear him, see the following video to belive it, the magic between tabla and flute is amazing

And who can forget the famous Hero number with the flute.

And then there is one more song, which was very popular number in the pubs about 2 years back and had a fantastic flute tune. Ok u guys which one was it?

F is also most definitely for Farida Khanum. I adore her voice. The way she has sung Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na karo… I can hear it over and over again

Another one of hers I truly love

PS: I still have top reply to the comments of the last 2 days, will do it soooon

Sacrifice

Abc Wednesday, Abc Wednesday Round 5, elton john, music

For me its strongly associated with Sir Elton John 🙂

Sacrifice- Just a simple word, I just love this song such beautiful lyrics and he has sang it so well

It’s a human  sign
When things go wrong
When the scent of her lingers
And temptation’s strong

Into the boundary
Of each married man
Sweet deceit comes calling
And negativity lands

Cold cold heart
Hard done by you
Some things look better baby
Just passing through

And it’s no sacrifice
Just a simple word
It’s two hearts living
In two separate worlds
But it’s no sacrifice
No sacrifice
It’s no sacrifice at all

Mutual misunderstanding
After the fact
Sensitivity builds a prison
In the final act

We lose direction
No stone unturned
No tears to damn you
When jealousy burns

U know when I had heard this song long ago, I used to think… its sacrifice ist a symbol of love… for a long time I used to think these are the lyrics till a friend corrected me lol 🙂 but dont u think these would have been lovely too

Ok by now u its a musical ABC time and today’s alphabet is E…

(SC)Elton_John_Photo

Elton John rather Sir Elton John, I love the way his fingers move on the paino and he has playing the paino since he was 3 and started his career as pianist when he was 15. His first album was Empty Sky however Elton John is known more as his first, the reason being it was realised in the US first.

Its also more popular because it finally made him with “Your Song”

Its also listed in Rolling Stones 500 greatest album of all times. Infact Elton John stands no 6 in the most albums there,5 of his

He was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and knighted in 1998. He has also been fighting against AIDS since a long time.

He was won 5 Grammy awards, 1 academy award, 1 golden globe.

Go on hear some of his best numbers

Can u feel the love tonight

Blessed

Dont go breaking my heart

the tribute to Princess Diana, good bye English Rose

And man do u remember his engagement ring… I could die for it 🙂

Abc Wednesday, Abc Wednesday Round 5, deep purple, doors, euphoria, jim morrison, music, palash sen

D is most certainly for Doors and the eternal Jim Morrison…

Nothing can beat the rain sound in the start of the Riders on the Storm… and what vocals…

The Indian Summer

LA Women

And then Light My  fire

I also really like the strange days

Unfortunately Morrison passed away very soon… a drug overdose made him sleep through a bout of vomit which went into his lungs… But he lives in his music…

Another D is also Deep Purple, I have never been a huge Deep Purple fan but N likes it a lot… and his favourite is the Highway Star

And back home we have my favurite Dr Palash Sen (he he I cheated I know) aka the Euphoria lead singer… Can any of us forget Dhoom Pichuk dhoom and the rage it created…I was in love with it..

And the maaire

Kabhi aana tou meri gali

There is something about his voice that I love… and u know he had acted in one movie also with the great Sush… I think he looks too cute too 🙂

PS: I have really been running very busy and not been able to reply to ur comments of the previous post, will do it soon guys keep them coming 🙂
