Big Day

30 Saturday Jan 2010

Its mom’s big day… she is getting retired today and its a big day in any working person’s life. From suddenly being in office you are at home all the time is surely one but more than that I think its the psychological thing that the life is slowly coming towards the last quarter of life’s journey…

A feeling that the office/school to which u have almost given your life is now going to run without u…

I hope mom is happy with this 😉

and wishing her a very happy and relaxed life post this… May she be able to start the small park school for the rickshaw’s children opposite to the house that she so wants to.

Wishing u luck mom as u start a new phase of life. Hugs and Wishes

Can we have an Amol Arte please?

dynasty, india, Paa, politics, young politician

PS: spoiler ahead, if u havent see Paa yet u might want to skip the post, it does divulge a lot of info 🙂

Just one, just one would do… Ideally one in every state but its ok to start with one in he whole country will do…

U guys do know who I am talking about right? I am talking about the dynamic young aspiring politician ready to take the world of corruption and dirty politics head on potrayed by Abhishek Bachan in Paa

What a character… A character in a hindi movie I fell in love with, A character I am desperately wanting to see become real, A character that our nation desperately needs

A character who has the means to go study Political Science in swanky foreign university but wants to come back to India to change the political system

A character who doesnt hesitate to tell his girl friend that we BOTH need to focus on our career right now and the baby can come later & no I didnt find anything wrong in that.

A character who when becomes a MP ACTUALLY works hard for the people

An MP who thinks out of the box and gives the award for the vision of India to a white globe 🙂

A MP who has the guts to do sting operation live on TV initially calling it his confession, he could have been written off even before the program began

A MP who finds time to actually fulfill the wish of a child suffering from a very very rare illness

A MP who when comes face to face with his child he didnt know comes boldly on the TV and says “I should have used a condom”

A MP who goes further and admits publicly that its his child…

I was blown away by the character, one such politician can probably help change the face of nation… atleast start the change

Also Paa helped me look at the dyansty issue in politics from a very different angle…

Amol Arte in the movie was the son of a well known and established politician, now think of any normal person who has no connection in the political world but has the same zest, same will power, same strength… infact for a moment lets forger Arte in Anmol Arte… how many of you think he did have the chances of becoming an MP at the age that is shown in the movie?

May be 10 years later he would have… but think about whaat would have happened in those 10 years… his josh, his youth would have died, he would probably have at some point have to succumb to the corruption to rise as he doesnt have the backing to do otherwise.

Does anyone of you remember Lok Paritran… a political part formed my ex-IITians… a brilliant idea which didnt really take off, now imagine one of them having some political lineage, do u think it would have made a difference?

I do agree that lineage gives an undue advantage but if we have someone like Amol Arte coming out of it do we mind? I dont what about you?

So here is my xmas wish to God… Give us on Amol Arte please….

So what do u buy for your child?

19 Thursday Nov 2009

Posted by monikamanchanda in 1

This weekend being Children’s Day we wanted to buy a small gift for Ojas. We took him to lifestyle and let him pick the toy he wanted

I personally think that if u are going to buy a toy for the child its best that you buy what he likes… Now when I write this statement I know a lot of heads nodding saying yes but ever thought of happens next….

What if your male child wants to pick up a doll? or your daughter wants to pick up a gun? So how do u react in such situations?

Because this is what exactly happened on Sunday… in the whole store the only thing that Ojas was attracted to and could hold his attention for more than 2 mins was the Barbie cooking set 😀 and when I asked him what he wants to buy he told me cooking toys… So I bought it for him without even thinking once that I shouldnt have.

The problem started later when whoever I told this to reacted in a way that I found very surprising…. they laughed on it… ha ha ha boy will play with kitchen set???? my own mom even went to the extent of telling me that  you should have not bought it…

I have also observed that this problem is more  common when u have a son… (atleast in some area they are less partial to girls)… more eyebrows are raised when a boy buys a kitchen set or a doll than when a girl boys a gun or a car…

I have a huge problem with this kind of conditioning… this is what makes them grow up with a huge gender bias… If we tell them when they are kids that girls should play with dolls and kitchen sets and the boys with guns and cars and tools isnt it natural that they grow up with that bias? Why do we cringe some much if our child wants to be a different than what is conventionally right? This is what I always talk about as conditioning…

The conditioning of a child’s mind begins right when he/she is an infant and when they grow up we label them as MCP’ etc etc…

When they are young and what to make chapathis for you in their kitchen set we tell them that no boys dont do it and then when they grow up and ask for hot hot chapathis we complain

When they are young and they want to dress up their doll, we tell them that no let you sister do this and then when they grow up and dont pamper their wives we call them unloving and uncaring husbands

Me for one has decided that I am going to enjoy the tea that Ojas is making for me these days in his new toy cooking set and enjoy it as long as it lasts…

Its high time we changed with the modern times isnt it?

dance, passion

I love dancing and its like therapy to me……..and I had almost forgotten it…. Seriously, sounds funny… basically its after ages I hit the dance floor yesterday…

Before Ojas happened me and N were regular in the pub/discs scene and used to catch up on dancing atleast once a month if not more… We even took classes in Salsa, Cha-Cha-Cha, Jazz, Rock-n-Roll, Rumba and used to dance very often to it even at home, heck we even have a certificate for these dances 🙂

And then I conceived and all these were forgotten 😦

Yesterday we were invited to a friends daughter’s birthday party and what a rocking time we had… I danced and danced like nobody’s watching seriously… its fun on the dance floor if u let ur inhibitions out and being a panju I think it comes naturally to me he he

With this a therapy a passion is revived, we practiced our Salsa at home today and we both have promised each other to get back to once a month hitting the pub routine soon enough

Life is all about living passions isnt it

family, fun, pics, vacation, village

Ok so here is the Back to Roots post… A brief of the trip we took the village recently…A Picture Essay I would say 😀

Before Starting from home, dont miss the dude’s style 😀

MathyamAug2009

On Roadside and more

MathyamAug20091

Food and more… specially for u guys… hitchy

MathyamAug20092

Masti @CCD

MathyamAug20093

The water bodies around the road, always have a calming effect… add to the charm of the road

MathyamAug20094

Finally reached the village, Ojas enjoying the house totally…. I love the houses in the village

MathyamAug20095

And we can enjoy too right, the tender coconut water directly from the trees and drunk straight was divine.. all scared me though that it will stain the dress…

MathyamAug20096

And then the walk to the fields begin, total bliss

MathyamAug20097

and I get space what else do I need 😀

MathyamAug20098

the tree climber 🙂

MathyamAug20099

In and around the house… gorgeous place I tell u and dont miss the brat trying to find the treasure in that age old wardrobe

MathyamAug200910

and some lovely pottery on the way back, each time I go there I pick up some… this time I picked up the pink and the blue one and no guys U cant understand this

MathyamAug200911

Everytime I go to the village, I am so happy and I dont want to come back at all…N’s village is the first association I ever had with a village… considering mom had been completely brought up in Delhi and dad moved to Delhi while he was in college and before that too was in Jallandhur which is by no means a village , only thing that made me a little sad this time was to see the empty fields… Granny can no more manage the farm and none of us are doing anything about it,… Sigh!!!

Mehendi Hai Rachne Walli

mehendi, personal

Mehendi holds a special place in every woman’s life… isn’t it? I have always loved mehendi since I was a small kid… I still remember the days when I was a kid and would get totally excited by any marriage happening because it would mean getting mehendi on hands… how I would look forward to the trips to Hanuman Mandir in CP because I could get mehendi on one hand when I go there… The highlight of diwali used to be the mehendi to me rather than the crackers, sweets and gifts… I have been in love with it all through

And then I got married and the bond got deeper… I still remember our mehendi evening… it was a small affair organized at home but it was special to my heart, we had invited N and family too and gosh how we freaked out dancing that night… almost scandalized his granny 😀 but she is a darling…

My cousins all together and sang the song… Mehendi hai rachnewalli for me and now forever my life that will be imprinted in my memory… Every time I hear the song I am taken back to that day, my heart swells with emotions… Its been 5 years but the day still feels fresh in the memory… Its a lovely song but beautiful lyrics that touch the heart

cousins singing and making me all emotional, notice mom is almost crying

(Mehndi hai rachnewaali, haathon mein gehri laali
Kahe sakhiyaan, ab kaliyaan
Haathon mein khilnewaali hain
Tere mann ko, jeevan ko
Nayi khushiyaan milnewaali hai) - 2
O hariyali banno
Le jaana tujhko guiyyaan aane waale hai saiyyaan
Thaamenge aake baiyyaan, goonjegi shehnaayi
Angnaayi, angnaayi
Mehndi hai rachnewaali, haathon mein gehri laali
Kahe sakhiyaan, ab kaliyaan
Haathon mein khilnewaali hain
Tere mann ko, jeevan ko
Nayi khushiyaan milnewaali hai

Gaaye maiya aur mausi, gaaye behna aur bhabhi
Ke mehndi khil jaaye, rang laaye hariyaali banni
Gaaye phoofi aur chaachi, gaaye naani aur daadi
Ke mehndi mann bhaaye, saj jaaye hariyaali banni
Mehndi roop sanwaare, o mehndi rang nikhaare, ho
Hariyaali banni ke aanchal mein utrenge taarein
Mehndi hai rachnewaali, haathon mein gehri laali
Kahe sakhiyaan, ab kaliyaan
Haathon mein khilnewaali hain
Tere mann ko, jeevan ko
Nayi khushiyaan milnewaali hai

Gaaje, baaje, baraati, ghoda, gaadi aur haathi ko
Laayenge saajan tere aangan, hariyaali banni
Teri mehndi woh dekhenge
To apna dil rakhdenge woh
Pairon mein tere chupke se, hariyaali banni
Mehndi roop sanwaare, o mehndi rang nikhaare, ho
Hariyaali banni ke aanchal mein utrenge taarein
Mehndi hai rachnewaali, haathon mein gehri laali
Kahe sakhiyaan, ab kaliyaan
Haathon mein khilnewaali hain
Tere mann ko, jeevan ko
Nayi khushiyaan milnewaali hai

Honey today I want to tell u that I still love so much and much more than before… may be I fight with u now and then ok may be quite often but thats because I can afford to fight with u… Love u a lot!!!

PS: I know the next post was supposed to be back to roots… but its coming up next promise
