10 day you challenge, just me

10-days-you-challenge

hmmm so we have to talk about fears today, isn’t it a fear in itself. I mean we all avoid talking about our fears why? are we afraid of talking about them? Do we fear that they will come true if we talk about them. Anyways enough of philosophy early morning and here are my fears

  1. Fear of being crippled and dependent – I fear this more than death. Fear the day when I will need support for the smallest of the things
  2. Fear of Old Age – yes I fear old age, wonder how will I react at that age. How healthy will I be? How lonely will I be? How will I cope with everything on my own. How the hell will I spend time
  3. Fear of Losing Loved ones – I think this is one of the biggest fear I live with. I dread and pray every day morning for their well being, and I am sure we all do
  4. Fear of Lizards – Eeeks I hate those creatures, live in perpetual fear of them. If I see them in my house means the night is gone for sure
  5. Fear of not being needed anymore – Yes lets face it its great to be needed and I fear the day when no one will need me may be that will lead to no one wants me
  6. Fear of missing a flight or a train – I behave like a total paranoid the days I have to catch a flight/train and its a running joke in our house that if they she has a flight to catch stay away from her. she’ll bite Smile with tongue out
  7. Fear of not being able to talk – its no secret that I love to talk. I can’t imagine myself in a situation where I can’t talk. Damn I sometimes think I should dare myself to do bipasana just to see if I survive and may be I can get over this fear atleast
  8. Fear of not having any fear – I think our fears give us strength to deal with life and to deal with ourselves, yes I fear the day I will have no fears at all

10 day you challenge, just me

10-days-you-challenge

So today is day for talking about loves… 9 loves after all life is a lot about love

  1. Ojas – at this point of time if I am asked to chose only one thing in this whole damn universe it will be my son.
  2. The better half – Its unbelievable how I think I have found peace and contentment in life with him, its just feels that we two were always meant to be together. Pieces of jigsaw puzzle which just fit together seamlessly
  3. Books – I need to read, I get withdrawal symptoms if I don’t. Books are a major part of my life. They are truly what some call them food for thought and fodder for the brain.
  4. Music – Music is healing, music is therapy, music is something that words can’t define. My headphones have always been my saviour when I was in full time work or now. Whether I am in the kitchen or on the laptop or on the go music is always on and BTW the latest obsession is Coke Studio. Just love it
  5. Travel and Driving – I think if there is one thing that connected me and N the minute we met it was driving and our love for traveling and exploring new places. If we don’t step out of the city for more than 2 months we both start getting itchy. Seeing new places, exploring new horizons is something I love
  6. Baking – Aaah well you all know about it don’t you? Baking is therapeutic for me. Its like when I am mixing, beating, folding the thoughts in my mind are sorting themselves out. And when the aroma engulfs the house a clarity and calm takes over my mind. only if it could stay that way Smile with tongue out
  7. Writing – Whether its here on the blog, or for my own private viewing or for the book that I dream to write someday. Blogging and writing is something I have grown to love and treasure
  8. Friends – I think we all realise what they mean to us and that includes you too my dear readers
  9. Me – Last but the least I love myself and I think its really important for everyone one of us to do so

10 day you challenge, fun, just me, tag

As if you all didn’t know enough about me already I have decided to take up this 10 day You challenge that I saw on Preeti’s blog loved the idea behind it and hopefully would get me into a serious rythm here again 😀

So here are the 10 secrets..

  1. I go on and off a diet atleast 10 times a year…sigh I love food too much for my own good
  2. At this point of time I have several options in my mind on what to do next and I am throughly confused. I dont think I have been so confused ever in my life
  3. I have started enjoying online shopping a lot in fact so much that there are times when I think going to a store is a waste of time *checks her own pulse*
  4. I hate detest malls, I think they are what they call the biggest evil in cities right now
  5. I miss miss miss mexican food in Bangalore. There is what u call a desperate need of one here
  6. I love drinking milk yes there I said it 🙂
  7. For 30 years of my life I hated mangoes and now I have turned into a biggest mango lover you can find
  8. Healthy and oil free cooking in my obsession. Can’t forget it even if I try very very hard
  9. Child and women rights is one topic I can’t keep my mouth shut on, I have got myself in trouble many a times for speaking out on them when may be I should have ignored it like many others. But how much ever hard I try. I just can’t
  10. Contrary to what everyone would think I can’t make my mind on Slut Walk. Have too many thoughts and views. May be I should do a post

Read part 1, part 2 and part 3

So after the adventure at snake park we reached mahabs finally and the first thing that hit me was the heat damn inspite of the morning being so nice and it drizzling off and on it was really hot, sultry weather is the kind of weather I hate the most.In delhi too I could still stand the dry heat but the july-sep will totally get to me… and as a result we had an ice cream as soon as we parked the car he he… and we proceeded to see the temple and what a beauty it was, all was forgotten and while we looked around the temple… with one stone beautifully carved monolithic structure amazing…

When I visit places like these I realise how rich India’s heritage is…. a old fort, an old temple everything with a history attached to it, only if we could maintain it a little better… We really need lessons in that both the common man and the government well govt needs a lesson in everything and that is a different matter all together 😛 but as usual I digress let me come back to Chennai chronicles which seem to be never ending dont they 🙂 What we were also greeted were with spell bounding sky view… clouds lined the bright blue sky and one could stare at them for hours, figure out shapes, see the birds that came and went, observe the sun play hide and seek with the clouds…

And the child went mad ask why he got sand everywhere he say to play with and mumma never said no 😉

What I also loved in Mahabs was the rocky beach, I love rocky beaches, love anjuna goa too I think they have a charm and I love waves coming and hitting on the rocks and receding… how it mirrors life is amazing isnt it?

We didn’t really spend too much time on the beach though neither could we go and have a look at ruins on the other side as it was beyond lunch time and ojas was getting crankier and hungry so we decided to head over to Temple Bay for a late lunch. We got a table outside by little man using his charms aah the benefits of having a child with you 😉 with the outstanding picture perfect view we eat brilliant lunch and beer… we ordered I think chicken kakabs, a pasta and another veg dish the name of which I have completely forgotten… but nonetheless the food good though on the expensive side and I reco it for the whole experience and they serve lovely iced tea as a welcome drink

to be continued… I am wondering will my Chennai chronicles ever get over 😉

Continued from here and here

So next morning alarms were set at 5am, bets in place that who will get up and who will not and the odds were highly against me but I was determined to prove them wrong and I think I got up just to prove them wrong 😛

So we were at the beach around 5:45 or so, with the weather just perfect to play around…. we enjoyed and overcome our fears, much fun was had playing in water, sand, feeling the sand slip away under the feet and making castles 😀 all the while when it was drizzling a bit making it even more fun… sigh beach is the only thing that makes me feel damn jealous about chennai ;P

Beach Fun

After spending around an hour and a half on the beach we all were hungry and the plan was to eat at Murugan Idly the place I start dreaming about the minute we start talking about a Chennai trip… We rushed to murugan idly only to be told that it opens at 8am for breakfast, disappointment is a small word for what I felt at that time I assure u 😦 however because I had one more day for eating that breakfast and we were hungry anyways P took us to hot chips, now that was a surprise as I didnt know that hot chips will sell idly dosa also. The hot chips here in Bangalore sell just what they are named for Hot chips and yummy ones too…. this hot chips had anything but chips 😉 the breakfast was decent though we thulped idly dosa, a dose of filter coffee and planned the rest of the day ahead while eating which was to proceed towards Mahabalipuram known as mahabs is what I am told 🙂

So after coming back home and scrubbing the sand away and making ourselves presentable we started on the drive towards mahabs on the ECR road of which I had heard so much about… and yet again all we encountered was crazy traffic, till quite sometime it did ease out when we crossed the toll booth a little though… the idea was to just decide if we want to stop somewhere on the way and see, if we dont find anything interesting we would head straight to mahabs, however the first stop came too soon – the snake and the crocodile park thinking ojas might enjoy the place… however it left me in pain just as most zoo’s in India too, apart from a couple of the like the Mysore zoo I always leave Indian zoos with a very heavy heart. This place was badly maintained, not clean at all, with tiny enclosures and the worst was the snake enclosure, they had placed the snakes in pots covered with a cloth, taken out randomly for display and hit nudged by a stick to fan so that the people there can get bribe tips

Having said that ojas did enjoy seeing all the crocs, for him the state doesn’t matter too much as of now I guess. There were also some turtles in the glass enclosures which he loved the most.

The aligators

Inside the snake park

There were also some nice and cute turtles in park, which excited ojas the most…. he refused to get away from them 🙂 so after seeing this and indulging in some pineapple with a generous sprinkling of red chillies we headed straight towards mahabs enjoying the lovely view on both sides of ECR

To be continued….

PS: can’t believe I am writing so much about chennai 😛

The Boss Is Not My Friend

08 Wednesday Jun 2011

Posted by monikamanchanda in review

book, book review, review, the boss is not my friend

First thing first I love the cover, second I love the name  There is no truth bigger than this in corporate world… “The Boss is not your Friend” full stop whatever he says or whatever you think other wise  And the book makes this simple thing clear in a not so crude manner. I mean when we say Boss is not your friend, it doesn’t mean that boss is you enemy either and one should head his way with a sword…

The book starts by proving that “Corporations are evil” and the way it does that one is sure that what lies ahead is a great entertaining read with insights in our everyday mad world…. And the point he makes is what me and N have discussed many a time between us. Companies run for business and nothing else. Employees just happen to be a part of it, fine there could be companies which could say they are employee friendly and sure they are but still “Corporations are evil”  and read the book to know why

Vijay has an amazing sense of humor that is evident all across the book, in the jokes he cracks or the advice he dishes out in not to preachy way or even the alternate name of the chapters like for eg  “Banging the Boss” . He keeps the book light which is a pleasant surprise specially considering its actually a non fiction which are not really my cup of tea. I don’t do a lot of non fiction but this book held my attention till the end.

The book took me back to many a moments where I have argued with the HR, or wanted the curse the boss under my breath and as an added advantage is the brilliant quiz in the book…

Any person with some experience in the corporate would love the book, N also read it and read it one sitting that too and that is a big thing to say when it comes to him, he usually takes ages to finish a book. Left us both wondering why didn’t some one get the idea of writing this before, what took it so long 😉

The book also left me craving to go back to corporate though I used to say I hate it but I think I still do but the book made me realise that there are many things I miss about that life too. Small things that did make the life I had bearable and fruitful. May be I am ready to go back and sending the book was god’s err blogadda’s way of making me realise that he he

For me the book was a nice entertaining read around the corporate world which teaches a thing or two without being preachy

Rating – 3.5/5
