“During the 1950s, the state-controlled All India Radio found O.P. too “trendy”, and put for quite some time a ban on broadcasting most of his famous tunes”
Even I didn’t knew this… Too trendy… I am wondering how kids today would describe these tunes?
LOL boring I guess and may be this will be written abt himesh… people used to hate him and dismiss him for his nasal voice which brought a new revolution
horrid monika shudders by the above thought 😀
I see Delhi in the header. 😀
Now let me check these songs.
yes yes yes I love saadi delhi 😀
OP Nayyar was also the one who didn’t give songs to Lata and promoted Asha after a spat. The guy had guts then and I guess even when he died, he was separated from his family and living with some strangers.
Yea that is a story I remember… Asha owes a lot to him coz he didnt do songs with Lata… !! !
Lovely songs… !!!!!
Aaiye Meherbaan, Babuji Dheere Chalna and all songs of CID are my favourites !!!!!! 😀 😀 😀
oh yes I remember that too but then I thought all will know it 😀
Some of the movies that you mentioned are Guru Dutt’s movies..my favorites.
‘ye reshmi zulfon ka andhere…’ nice pick.
BTW how far are you in Eat, Pray, Love? It is a fun read.

beautiful choice of songs,Monika.Asha Bhonsle was sheer magic when she sang for him.
The first song that came to my mind when I saw the name O P Nayyar was a song from Sawan ki Ghata. Its a song I used to listen to a lot and I still hum it at times.am unable to embed it here so linking it 🙂

oh thats an awesome song… lovely one
OPN was a genius!!! I think he did the music for Andaz Apna Apna and had his style and touch all over the songs of that movie. I still love those songs mainly because in the 90s, no one really composed that way.
He is an evergreen artist. Awesome songs, Mon.
oh yes masood I remember… they had that touch specially this one
