Mehendi holds a special place in every woman’s life… isn’t it? I have always loved mehendi since I was a small kid… I still remember the days when I was a kid and would get totally excited by any marriage happening because it would mean getting mehendi on hands… how I would look forward to the trips to Hanuman Mandir in CP because I could get mehendi on one hand when I go there… The highlight of diwali used to be the mehendi to me rather than the crackers, sweets and gifts… I have been in love with it all through
And then I got married and the bond got deeper… I still remember our mehendi evening… it was a small affair organized at home but it was special to my heart, we had invited N and family too and gosh how we freaked out dancing that night… almost scandalized his granny 😀 but she is a darling…
My cousins all together and sang the song… Mehendi hai rachnewalli for me and now forever my life that will be imprinted in my memory… Every time I hear the song I am taken back to that day, my heart swells with emotions… Its been 5 years but the day still feels fresh in the memory… Its a lovely song but beautiful lyrics that touch the heart
cousins singing and making me all emotional, notice mom is almost crying
(Mehndi hai rachnewaali, haathon mein gehri laali Kahe sakhiyaan, ab kaliyaan Haathon mein khilnewaali hain Tere mann ko, jeevan ko Nayi khushiyaan milnewaali hai) - 2 O hariyali banno Le jaana tujhko guiyyaan aane waale hai saiyyaan Thaamenge aake baiyyaan, goonjegi shehnaayi Angnaayi, angnaayi Mehndi hai rachnewaali, haathon mein gehri laali Kahe sakhiyaan, ab kaliyaan Haathon mein khilnewaali hain Tere mann ko, jeevan ko Nayi khushiyaan milnewaali hai Gaaye maiya aur mausi, gaaye behna aur bhabhi Ke mehndi khil jaaye, rang laaye hariyaali banni Gaaye phoofi aur chaachi, gaaye naani aur daadi Ke mehndi mann bhaaye, saj jaaye hariyaali banni Mehndi roop sanwaare, o mehndi rang nikhaare, ho Hariyaali banni ke aanchal mein utrenge taarein Mehndi hai rachnewaali, haathon mein gehri laali Kahe sakhiyaan, ab kaliyaan Haathon mein khilnewaali hain Tere mann ko, jeevan ko Nayi khushiyaan milnewaali hai Gaaje, baaje, baraati, ghoda, gaadi aur haathi ko Laayenge saajan tere aangan, hariyaali banni Teri mehndi woh dekhenge To apna dil rakhdenge woh Pairon mein tere chupke se, hariyaali banni Mehndi roop sanwaare, o mehndi rang nikhaare, ho Hariyaali banni ke aanchal mein utrenge taarein Mehndi hai rachnewaali, haathon mein gehri laali Kahe sakhiyaan, ab kaliyaan Haathon mein khilnewaali hain Tere mann ko, jeevan ko Nayi khushiyaan milnewaali haiHoney today I want to tell u that I still love so much and much more than before… may be I fight with u now and then ok may be quite often but thats because I can afford to fight with u… Love u a lot!!!

My mehandi night was literally that. The mehandi waala arrived at 11, and declared that it would take 2.5 hours to apply …yawn! yawn!
so I finally slept after 1 and was woken up by 5 the next day, which was the wedding day.
arrived at 11… I had made sure that mehendi lady turns up at 5…i was almost done when N came…. its different story that I slept so less too

Ahem! Me present! 😀
what walking fashionably late again 😀
aww.. Monu! what a beautiful beautiful post! 🙂 🙂
I remember my best friend had applied Mehendi on my hands and feet.
We sat quietly in one corner and she painted applied so beautifully…
That was a promise we had made to each other in college, she would apply Mehendi for my wedding and I would do the makeup at hers.
She kept her end of the promise, but, I don’t know if I will be able to keep mine (we don’t talk to each other anymore. Long story!)
But, this post is beautiful. Your hands look lovely. 🙂
awww that would have been soo sweet and thats sad friendships are precious dear see if u can revive it
and thanks dear
Your hands look sooo lovely! I love mehendi too but too lazy to keep it for such a long time (last time was on my brother-in-law’s wedding – that too on a single hand, one side!)…
Nice post
surprisingly mehendi is one of the few things for which I have patience I think the liking is strong 😀
wow. lovely pics.
I love mehndi too. Used to look for any excuse for mehndi. There’s a lady near my mom’s house who puts gorgeous mehndi. Almost every time I went home, I’d try to squeze in a visit to her. And then have friends and colleagues asking when I got back – “what’s the occasion”?
lucky u dear… i dont have anyone who will do this favour to me… once in a while I just put plain dots on my hand… u know those centre round and then fingers one 😉
OOOHHH !!! (sob sob) Me too crying. Its so lovely – your hands, the design, the love, the dance – its a day etched in memory, right ??
I just love mehendi and I am the only one in my family to be crazy abt it. I dont need any occasion to design my hands. I love the smell of it on my hands, too.
Now, I am going to put some design – all becos of your post !!! But a gud one…
oh yes for sure it is….
u know to put up designs… me totally J

i love mehendi ki khushboo, the color, the designs. .. the extra help we get to do things coz our hands are busy getting the mehendi dry.. the whole process makes you feel special and lovely…
i want to see these pics now.. but how?
oh yes someone making u eat, getting water for u… everything 🙂
i sent u the link the advantage na 😉
Aww…..lovely. I love Mehendi too & it’s so unfortunate that in our house , we cannot apply it during pregnancy.
Unfortunatley Abhi does not like the Mehendi smell but even that does not deter me from putting it in every possible occassion.
I love the mehendi night pictures of yours. You are glowing .
awww thats sad, N has a no reaction attitude towards it so i do it whenever I can 🙂
and thanks dear
Wow your hands look beautiful!!! The pictures are such a delight … can feel the fun and happiness in them!! What an adorable post 🙂 My warmest wishes to you both!!
thanks IHM…. 🙂
And I love mehendi too 🙂
he he as hitchy says all of us do
The pics are fantastic… I truly believe… that occassions become memorable by dance and music… or else… you tend to forget them… !!!!!
I have not met a girl who doesnt love mehndi…
I hate mehndi more than it… I just hate the smell… but no it doesnt matter… people just keep piling up henna…
oh yes I agree with u on that and who else can endorse it better than a dance crazy panju 😉
u do, but why should people stop? they are not forcing u to do na
Ohh I have been crazy about mehandi since I was a kid and thats a lovely song.
Nice pics Monika
thanks dear
your pics are lovely and lovelier the declaration at the end:)
I dont like to piut mehendi, but love it on other’s hands, actually nowadays they put some chemicals in mehndi to makethe color dark red, and that chemical gives me allergic itching:)
thanks renu
and ok there hitchy we find someone who doesnt like mehendi
but i know what u mean by these days mehendi they always give color dont they… i still remember how as a kid we used to wait for the color to come and fight for who’s has come the darkest as the darker the color the more love u would get from hubby/mil
I have never been a great fan of mehendi.. but this time, my trip to Delhi, I happened to put mehendi and on both sides too!
It really looked pretty but now its going through the fading process!
thats the only part abt mehendi that I hate the fading..
how have u been BTW, long time
wow Monu!!!! u look gorgeous!!
touchwood!!
the mehendi looks very nice!! i like seeing the designs of mehndi, but me no likes mehndi really… 🙄
all my gal friends have disowned me whenever i make this confession…something about the smell…
pah! they love it for the smell…and me no likes exactly that!

Oooh I just love this song. The lurics, the rhythm everything.
And Mehandi, even I love it so much. I just love the smell, the color of it.
Too bad I can’t get those intricate designs done on my hand here.
I have to be contended with whatever I can make on my own hands here 😦
🙂
and if u ask me I can make nothing on my own hands… ser….
Wow! What a cute post, and what vibrant photos. That song is one of my personal favourites too you know!

Is your pran-parmeswar (cross between pati-parmeswar and pran nath) away? 😉 Missing you mood meter, mehendi pictures. Keda haal hai kudiye? Tainu ishq da lagiya rog tere bachne ki naiyyo ummeed. I know rog pehle se laga hai but looks like just got rekindled in the absence. Ha..ha..ha..
Your mehendi is beautiful. Shaadi means dance and hungama!

Aha! see I knew that. 😉 Let me dedicate the same song that I dedicated to my pran parmeswar last week when he was away.
He is expected any time now? Now go..go ahem.. get ready. 😉 *Solilo cleaning her dirty mind with clorox* 😆

Hi Monika,
I swear this is my favourite song till today, and somehow I rarely get to hear it. Yes, it makes me very emotional , I know I would be doing a lot of ‘rona dhona’ when my cute little daughters mehndi day comes (By the way my daughters are only 7 and 1.5 yrs now.. hi..hi..)
take care
Rekha
