As most of u know we had gone to Kerala in the Independence Day Weekend… It was a great break… Myself, Naren, Ojas, my sister Aparna, our friends Manish and Shivani drove from Bangalore to Kumrkaon in our new car and our friends new Honda City and then to Cochin… We spent a day in the houseboat, sometime relaxing in the backwaters resort getting Kerala Massage done (and it was a fantastic experience apart from the fact that they bring u in ur birth suit :)) and then in cochin we went for a Cruise in the sea and attended the baptism ceremony of our friends daughter all in all it was a great break and we all had a blast… will do a detailed post on my travel blog soon till then check out the pics…

Everyone in my family enjoys eating methi and though we make it in quite some ways… aalo methi, gajar methi, methi-palak toor dal, methi paneer… we had got kind of bored with all this and thus I put my thinking cap and tried to get something different… the result was very good and all at home loved it 🙂 Its an simple and extremely healthy dish… do try it our

Ingredients

2 cups fresh chopped methi leaves
3/4 cup moong dal
2 medium onions chopped
1 large tomato chopped
3-4 dry red chillies
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp dhaniya powder
1 tsp tava fry masala (u can make it at home also but easier way is to get MDH tava fry masala)
1 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
chilli powder if u want it spicy (i was like my food spicy)
2 tsp oil

Method
1. Wash and soak moong dal for about 15 mins and then keep it for boiling in a pan with abt 1 cup of water, boil for about 5 mins or till tender and drain the water… they should just be boiled and not sticking to each other

2. Heat oil in a kadai and add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds to eat… after the cumin becomes brown add the dry chillies and fry for 1/2 minute

3. Add the onions and fry till they start becoming golden brown

4. Add the tomatoes and fry till it leaves oil

5. Add all dry masalas and fry for another 1/2 minute
6. Now add the methi leaves
7. Fry for about 4-5 minutes till they become tender and then add the boiled and drained moong dal

8. Fry for another 3-4 minutes and then bingo its ready…… enjoy…….

PS: Also this is my entry to Herb Mania hosted at Red Chillies this months herb being methi

Doctors Day

Saturday was a day for me to visit doctors sob sob 😦 the problem in my hand was seeming to come back so I thought I might as well go and show it… the doc has advised me to wear a wrist splint and do a MRI and then go back to him…

Apart from that I also had a dentist appointment in the afternoon, now dentist are the doctors I hate most….one the toothache is a really bad pain but I think more than that its the discomfort and the whole exprenience u have at the dentist clinic… imagine a strange man standing almost on ur head and digging and drilling in ur mouth with some weird instruments… so uncomfortable and so yuck…. the doc has told me that I need a RCT… and more than that he told me that the whole problem is because the lower tooth was extracted some time back and I should get a dental implant which is amazingly expensive, painful and a long process…. hate to think about it but looks like multiple visits to the dentist are lined up

blogging, food, recipe

I typically do this recipe to on the left over rice to give it a twist 🙂 though it seems to come better by sister’s hand but nonetheless everyone at my house seems to love it…

Ingredients
1 large onion sliced
2 large tomatoes chopped
3-4 green jalapenos chopped
3-4 red jalapenos chopped
(I love jalapenos and tend to use them often)
4-5 curry leaves
1/2 tsp pav bhaji powder
1/4 tsp sambhar powder
salt to taste
green chillies as much as u can handle i usually like this rice spicy though if u have kids eating this give it a skip
1/2 lemon
1/4 aamchor powder
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp refined/olive oil
and ofcourse the left over rice (approx a cup)
u can add shredded and blanched vegies also

Procedure:
1. Heat the oil in a non stick pan
2. Add mustard seeds and wait till they crack
3. Add green chillies, jalapenos, curry leaves stir fry for 1 min
4. Add onion and fry till they turn little brown
5. Add tomato and fry for 2 minutes or when it leaves oil
8. Add all masalas fry for 1 mins
9. Add lemon and then rice, fry for another 1 min
bingo ur 2 mins fried rice is ready… ok ok i agree it took more than 2 mins.. but tell me when have u been able to make maggi in 2 mins 😉

This also happens to be my 100th post and I think I have come a long way from where I started about 2 years back… I have interacted with so many people so of my age group some much elder and some much younger and I have learned something from each one of them… Blogging is one medium where u are so free to express what u want and shed all inhibitions… Thank u all readers and fellow bloggers in helping me grow….

india, personal

Both me and the country turn an year older tomorrow… So here wishing u all a very happy independence day and wishing myself a very happy birthday 🙂

Its actually been quite a year for me as well as India… from the tamasha in the parliament to wining the gold… from bomb blast in various states to the infrastructure development… I hope India shines at the world horizon very soon…. Proud to be an Indian… vande matram…. Actually if u ask me India just needs u and me and everyone else to stand up for India, think of it as our home and try to solve problems at our level and then it will surely roll up too…….

And then if u have been following the blog u know… the biggest change in me is the change in status from a working female to a working mother 🙂 quite some change i tell u… still trying to adjust 🙂

And because of these two occasions and it been a long weekend… I am off to God’s Own country Kerala to celebrate and will be back on tuesday… till then you guys have a blast of time on the independence day long weekend…. and keep the patriot in u alive….

Happy Independence Day!!!

Weighty Issues

11 Monday Aug 2008

personal, weight

Now I know I have never been a thin girl… my weight curve has always been a sine wave going up and down at regular intervals and keeping me fine or pleasantly plump as they say it 🙂 but now since my son came into picture the curve is not a curve anymore its like one straight inclined line taking my weight up and up and up and up…. yesterday I simply decided to check my weight and I got a shock of my life and no I am not going to mention how much was it 😉 I think its high time I do something about it… So here I am pledging that I will loose 10kgs in the next 3 months and the clock starts today….

First few steps…
1. healthy and restricted diets… only fruits and vegies in the dinner.. and obs no sweets no frieds…
2. i would love to exercise a lot and the get the weight down soon but I know its practically not possible to join a gym at this stage so brisk walk everyday morning…

any other suggestions folks? Just keep in mind I have a 8-month old to take care off and a full time demanding job

this is how Indian policemen take care of bombs… i am totally aghast… don’t know how to react… god help us if they are our life guards and saviors… Even a ten year old would have know better. I guess we should stop teaching our children that if u see an unattended object call the police as that is become more dangerous…
